Kilimanjaro
Its majestic bulk evokes the words of Hemmingway in his book, THE SNOWS OF KILIMANJARO, “As far as you can see, as wide as the whole world, high and unbelievably white in the sun, lays the flat Peak of Kilimanjaro”.
At 5896m Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest Mountain, the highest free–Standing Mountain in the world and one of its highest dormant volcanoes. It is one of the world’s most accessible high Summits a beacon for visitors from around the world.
Most climbers reach the crater rim with little more than a walking stick, proper clothing and determination. But, there is more to it than the Summit. A journey up her slopes takes you on a climatic world tour, from the tropics to the arctic. Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a fascinating and surprisingly easy experience. Any one over 12 years of age, possessing a pair of good lungs and fit enough to walk 20 km a day may attempt to reach the SUMMIT – UHURU PEAK.
There are six recommended routes up the Mountain. Some quite easy, some challenging.

The following routes are recommended for most climbers:

ROUTE NO. 1 MACHAME ROUTE: Sleep in Tents (6 days / 5 nights) – Highly recommended: This is probably the most beautiful route up Kilimanjaro. With gradual ascent through forest you emerge to see wide view of the moorland on Shira Plateau, Kibo and the western breach.
Day 1: The route starts at Machame gate (2000m). Walking through thick forest
until it eventually breaks into giant heath near Machame Hut Campsite at
10,000ft. it takes 4 to 5 hours walk to reach the hut station.
Day 2: Ascend through heath and moorland to Shira Hut at 12,598ft. Overnight
with fine view of Kibo’s Western Breach and wide Shira Plateau.
Day 3: From Shira Hut, you can go on to the Barranco Hut 3,900m (12,795ft) this
takes about 5 to 6 hours. You will have to spend your night at Barranco Hut.
